Workplaces Sexual Violence Framework

Workplace sexual violence encompasses all forms of sexual assault and harassment that take place between managers, employees, customers, clients, or stakeholders who are affiliated with a company, agency, or employer.   The Sexual Violence Prevention Association (SVPA) released a framework analyzing the four forms of workplace sexual violence.  This framework is key for identifying this pervasive issue and taking action against it.

Each form of workplace sexual violence is defined and examples are provided for several types of harm- quid pro quo, hostile environment, abuse of power, and retaliation.  Quid pro quo is when the perpetrator pressures the victim to perform sexual acts in exchange for something, like a raise.  Hostile environment is when the perpetrator makes the work environment uncomfortable or unsafe.  Abuse of power is when the perpetrator weaponizes their power against the victim.  Retaliation is when the perpetrator acts with revenge or retribution against the victim.
